MAT kalahari
Inspired by wide open spaces and untamed landscapes
An invitation to travel
Philippe Bourseiller — Photographer, explorer, witness to the world.
For nearly forty years, Philippe Bourseiller has travelled the planet, from the poles to volcanic lands, from deep forests to the most remote deserts. His work, recognised several times by World Press Photo, captures the beauty and power of the natural world.
In Déserts du monde, he brings together fifteen years of photographs from more than forty deserts: places where silence and vastness bring you back to what matters.
A Tuareg proverb sums up this quest: "God created lands with water so that men might live there, and deserts so that men might find their soul."
Adventure as a playground
Philippe Bourseiller and MAT — Twenty years of friendship and shared expeditions.
A longtime friend of MAT founder Fabrice Pougez, Philippe shares his love of adventure and the same respect for the realities of the field.
For twenty years, he has worn MAT watches all over the world. From Lake Baikal and the Arctic at –40 °C to deserts well above 40 °C, they have gone wherever he goes.
After each expedition, Philippe shares what he has learned with the MAT team. Cold, heat and rough terrain are the best way to put a watch to the test.
"It could have been manufactured fifty years ago, or in ten years"
Clean lines, nothing more
MAT's signature barrel case has a strong, distinctive silhouette, with lugs cut from solid steel and a "moustache" that blends the strap into the case.
The Sector dial borrows from the graphic design of the 1930s. Two circles organise the dial: radiating hour markers in the centre, minutes and seconds around the outer ring.
Blued steel hands
Made by La Pratique using traditional techniques passed down through generations, they add a subtle touch of elegance.
Barrel-shaped case
Solid, sloping lugs provide exceptional strength and durability.
Sector dial
Inspired by 1930s watchmaking, the dial is organised into two circles: hours in the centre, minutes on the outer railway track. The hands and indices are coated with ivory luminescent material.
Soprod P024 movement
The Kalahari runs on the Soprod P024, a Swiss automatic movement made in the Jura. We then inspect every watch ourselves.
